On Episode 01 of the Powder 8 Podcast I chat with Noah Howell. Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Noah grew up in the foothills of the Wasatch mountains but didn’t discover them until he was a young adult. He discovered skiing at the ski resorts and was quickly drawn into the backcountry on leather telemark boots and 3-pin bindings. A pastime quickly became an obsession and soon Noah and his brother Jonah were toting a family camcorder along on their outings simply trying to capture the essence of their new-found obsession. A hobby turned into a career and the Howell brothers produced heart-felt ski flicks as Powder Whore productions for 10 years. In addition Noah appears year after year in magazines and partners with companies representing, designing, and testing gear (Jaybird, Flylow, Black Diamond, Scarpa, Julbo, Skimo.co). As both an athlete and filmmaker, Noah, continues to travel the world going on expeditions and putting up (and down) first ski descents. As the sport has grown and changed Noah has embraced the technology and innovation. On a deep pow day you can find him on fat skis and fairly stiff boots, and if conditions are marginal you might catch him on rando sticks in a speed suit. After being at it for over 15 years Noah is still as psyched as ever.
